Saturday morning I'm doing 70 MPH on the freeway and this crowbar thing hits my car's front bumper. Not sure if it came from the car in front of me or what, but the thing damaged my bumper and grill. Plus it ripped my license plate off, so now I have to deal with the DMV to get a new plate. Guess it could have been worse, the thing could have bounced upward and into the windshield instead of downward and underneath the car.
Vegas was OK. I use to love Vegas--the drinking, the gambling, the debauchery. But these days it's more of a hassle/chore than anything. A very expensive hassle/chore. Easily a couple of rounds at Pebble, but instead I wanted to help Sally's college fund. I think for my bachelor party I'll skip LV and do fishing or golf, something a little more relaxing.
Aria Hotel and Casino was a bit disappointing. The outside looks really cool with all the lights. Reminds me of the Petronas Towers lighting. But inside it was a bit too dark for me. They have this dark brown colour theme which creates a somber, heavy mood. My room had a nice view of the main entrance but the room itself was just average. Aria's rooms are suppose to be very high tech but I found all the high tech stuff rather annoying. It's like my Comcast DVR cable box, too much lag. And the insulation sucks because you can hear all the water pipes from other people showering.
Flight back home was delayed. Good thing I bought Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers so I had something to read. But after reading the first few chapters I got really depress. Outliers is about successful people, from athletes to software programmers to musicians. Gladwell dispels the Horatio Alger myth. Success, base on his research, is largely luck (what month/year you were born, etc.) and early opportunities (family wealth, etc), not hard work. Not something I wanted to hear, because I don't think I'm that lucky and I know I didn't have a lot of the same opportunities that Bill Gates and Steve Jobs had growing up.
The only good thing about this weekend was my USGA badge came. Here's my USGA bag tag with "Bogey Bao" as my official member name.
